The model 8-105 is a perfect example of Auburn’s successes
in the early 1930’s. The company’s success is recognized through Erret Lobban
Cord’s ambitions to revamp Auburn. His first assessment after becoming
president in 1926 was to wholesale the existing company inventory. He did so by
dressing the 600-700 unsold vehicles with bright two tone colors and nickel
trim to attract buyers.  Within months
Cord’s ambitions reached its reality. In addition, all old stock and related
parts were sold. 
Auburn’s new direction was complimented by acquiring
eight-cylinder engines from Lycoming Manufacturing Company to power their
models. This decision helped Auburn position themselves in the market as being
a company who provided affordable eight-cylinder vehicles. Mechanical
components were also advanced due to the company’s partnership with the
Duesenberg brothers who raced and built racing cars. In addition to Cord’s
leadership, the company managed to acquire fresh and sensational new designers
such as Alen Leamy and Gordon Buehrig. The combination of beautiful stylish and
advanced engineering associated Auburn with the rich and famous lifestyle.
