1967 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK
Overview
This 1967 Mustang fastback was imported in 2015. What arrived was a rolling shell, ready for a full and thorough restoration at South Coast Mustangs. At an early stage, it was decided to be painted Dark Moss Green, an original shade for the Mustang in 1967, and create an iconic green fastback that isn't a Bullitt movie copy. This particular fastback just so happened to have left the factory floor in 1967 as a Dark Moss Green, which has made this restoration even more satisfying.
The entire restoration is to a very high standard, with attention to detail and thoroughness throughout; the list of parts used in the rebuild is available upon request, and partially listed within this description. It was restored to OEM standards and above, with many upgrades benefiting from modern technologies, or safety improvements. Such items include disc brakes for stopping efficiency, EFI for reliability, and air conditioning for comfort.
Overall, this vehicle is The One to own. Whether you are thinking of becoming a classic car owner, or have owned classics, or want to add to your collection, this Mustang would be an emerald gem to own. It is completely rust free, every component has been restored or replaced. It is reliable with plenty of power at the rear wheels, performs perfectly at speed and safe to drive with modern upgrades to the brakes and suspension. It can't get much better.
It is being sold on behalf of the current owner. Restoration work was undertaken in the UK, by South Coast Mustangs.

Deluxe Hood / Bonnet Without labour costs, the cost for the sheet metal alone is in the region of £5,500.00 GBP. Some may say "that's a bargain", as the Mustang has affordable replacement panels in comparison to other iconic classic cars, but nevertheless, the amount of metal used was to ensure a full and thorough body restoration. As they say, "it's all in the prep".
Care and attention was taken to remove and install all sheet metal, perfectly panel alignment and removing 50 year old corrosion, to create a perfect base for the laborious job of body and paint work to begin.
Before body / paint, the floor and frame of the car was protected. All seams were sealed with a urethane sealer, over-coated with an over-paintable spray sealer, and then painted with a 2k semi gloss black paint spray paint. This was to ensure a weather proofed base, and a clean blank canvas for later in the restoration.

The engine bay also received high attention; bare metal, body worked, and painted in satin black industrial paint. Pictures of the engine bay: Click Here
At the paint shop, the exterior was taken back to bare metal. It was acid etch primed, and the laborious body work commenced. The gaps were perfected, panels aligned, and it was painted in base coat Dark Moss Green, mixed to Ford's original formula, and clear coated with a modern, scratch resistant, clear coat. All body work was undertaken in a humidity and temperature controlled environment, to ensure the longevity of the paint quality.

Once back from the paint shop, the rebuild began. On the exterior, the car received 99.9% new trim, which included:
Front Bumper
Rear Bumper
Door Handles
Vent Window Assemblies
Front Glass
Windshield Molding
Grille Moldings
Grille
GT Fog Light Assemblies
Deluxe Gas Cap
Taillight Lenses
Taillight Bezels
Door Locks
Trunk Lock
Sill Plates
Hood Molding
American Racing Wheels & Avon Tyres
Parking Lights
Back Up Lights
Halogen Headlights
Wiper Arms & Blades
and much, much more.
The exterior is complete, looks fantastic and needs nothing. Side emblems were left off, for a cleaner look, with GT fog lights illuminating the iconic grille, and rear trunk moldings finishing off the rear end. The deluxe gas cap is another item you won't see on many classic Mustangs.
One more awesome upgrade worth mentioning: LED taillights, with Amber LED indicators. These could go unnoticed, but provide the owner with peace of mind with a vivid brake and indicator light, which is a major upgrade over dull filament bulbs with no dull indicator. They look great too.
Interior
Sound deadening material lined the floors and wheel houses, inner arches, doors, and firewall, to assist dampening road noise, creating a quieter, and comfortable driving experience. Hardly any floor could be seen. This also insulates the cabin, keeping in the AC controlled temperature, and engine / exhaust heat down.
Wiring can be a classic car nightmare, but not this one: a modern wiring loom was installed to replace the dated and dangerous wiring, for a modern, safe and reliable loom. This allows additional components to be added without stress on the loom. The loom itself is by AmericanAutowire and is an aftermarket replacement built for a 1967 Ford Mustang. It takes modern fuses, modern relays, and is much more suited to today's driver.
There are four major upgrades on the interior, you are unlikely to find with any other restored Mustang.
Air Conditioning, from OldAir Products - for comfort!
Tilt Steering Column, from Ididit - for steering wheel adjustment!
Centre Console - for period correct style!
Central Locking - for convenience! The upholstery was carefully re-done, in black, with new seat foam and new hardware throughout. OEM correct, and comfortable to sit in with the V8 purring away.

All of the interior panels were prepared and painted in satin black, except the dash which was finished in gloss black. Deluxe dash equipment was used to improve the finish of the dash, with brushed aluminium finishes to the gauges and right hand panels. Many new parts were used, and restored, for an ultimate interior restoration; these included:
Black Carpets
Fold Down Seat Moldings
Instrument Bezel
Instrument Lenses
Dash Trim
Black Dash Pad
Headliner
Wiring Loom (American Autowire)
Steering Column
Air Conditioning
Upholstery
Seat Foam
Floor Mats
Pillar Pads
Knee Pad

Courtesy Lights

Door Handles
Window Winders
Vent Window Assemblies
Weatherstripping
Steering Wheel
Switches
Bezels & Knobs
Sun Visors
Rear View Mirror Bracket
Door Panels
Door Latches
Door Catches
Trunk Mat
and more... another thorough list!
Engine & Transmission
One of the most iconic items about the Mustang, is the Ford small block V8 engine released in 1964.5. It's one of those engines that sounds like it does in the movies, has a lot of potential rivaling the heavy cast big block engines.
The engine in this Mustang is a date and period correct 289ci (4736cc) V8. Although somewhat dead when it arrived, it soon became free and brought back to life. It was disassembled, cleaned and sent away for machine work. It was reworked at an engine specialist in Winchester, where not only was the engine cylinders bored to +0.040", but the rotating assembly was checked and dynamically balanced to high accuracy (all items were weighed, and machined even, which results in a smooth engine with no unwanted engine vibrations).
The engine itself, during full rebuild, was graced with the following:
Pistons
Piston Rings
Crankshaft Bearings
Connecting Rod Bearings
Edelbrock Performer Camshaft
Camshaft Bearings
ARP Head Bolts
Edelbrock / ARP Intake Bolts
Comp Cams Roller Rockers
HV Oil Pump
HD Oil Pump Shaft
Oil Pump Pick Up
Cast Aluminium Oil Sump
Timing Gear & Chain
Timing Cover
Water Pump
Edelbrock Performer Cylinder Heads
Aluminium Intake Manifold
Edelbrock Valve Covers & Air Cleaner
FelPro & Edelbrock Gaskets
Aluminium Radiator
Flex-a-lite Fan
1 Wire Alternator
600 CFM Carb
and much more!
Stainless steel exhaust manifolds allow the engine to breathe, mated to a dual exhaust with FlowMaster mufflers; a true, classic American V8 rumble!
The C4 automatic transmission was also period and date correct, and was rebuilt in full at an automatic specialist in Southampton. This performs perfectly, smooth gear changes and lots of torque with the new torque converter.

Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Like all of the other areas of this restoration, the brakes, suspension and steering, also were completely restored, replaced and improved.
The brakes have been upgraded to four wheel discs, with power servo for assisted stopping. The discs are high quality and 100% new, with new brake lines throughout, dual bowl master cylinder, and new discs and pads. This is equipment designed for the 1967 Mustang, and service parts are readily available.
Both the front and rear suspension was rebuilt in full, with high performance, sport equipment used, including the orange shock by Dutch company Koni.
It is worth noting that a brand new Ford 9" axle was purchased, and installed with a completely rebuilt differential centre section, with 3.00:1 ratio. It could be overlooked, but this axle is bullet proof and will stand the test of time. The new differential has removed any slop or play in the 50 year old equipment.
Suspension replacement included:
Upper Control Arms
Lower Control Arms
Coil Springs with Higher Spring Rating
Coil Spring Saddles
Coil Spring Insulators
Strut Rod Arms
Strut Rod Bushings
Rear Leaf Springs (High Performance)
Leaf Spring Bushings
Leaf Spring Shackles
Currie Axle Tie Down Plates & U Bolts
Koni High Performance Shock Absorbers The steering system has been completely replaced for a Rack and Pinion system from Steeroids. This rack and pinion is power assisted, removes the 'bump steer' from the OEM style steering, and completely modernises the joy of driving this classic Mustang.
The alignment as been set, professionally with state of the art equipment. The car tracks and drives incredibly well, with camber, caster and tracking adjusted. This is vital - a) for longevity of tyres, and b) for handling and comfort when driving. Never underestimate the benefit of a good alignment, done by a professional who understands classic cars.
If you have read all that, well done. It may be a lot to take in, but the purpose is to be transparent and open, showcasing the workmanship that has been put into this classic Mustang.
However, please email info@southcoastmustangs.com, or use the Ask Seller a Question feature on eBay, or call, if you have any other questions, or would like more details on any area of this car.
This full description should give you is peace of mind, knowing that this is a beautiful restoration, with a fast and reliable engine, rebuilt brakes and suspension, premium steering, and many modern upgrades that make it safe and a joy to own.
