1984 BMW K100RS Pre-Production Motorcycle, Serial number 3 Made, Owned By BMW For Sale

Offered for sale is this highly collectible early K-RS,
serial number 3 made. According to the BMW Archives, this machine was built in
April of 1984, and the first owner was BMW of North America. It was used by BMW
for road tests and press photos of the then-new K series bikes, which were a
revolution for BMW. This particular machine was also used at the Vail Colorado
dealer intro for the new BMW K series bikes in June of that year.  This may very well be
the oldest K-RS still around, since I've been told by people who were involved
with BMW at the time that the early bikes often ended up getting crashed by
over-zealous road testers, or being used in the service school, to be disassembled
over and over during training of the dealer mechanics on the new models. So #1
and 2 may be gone. But no matter what, this is still a very important piece of BMW
history.

Overall the
bike is very much as it was first delivered. It even has the early rubber mounted
footpeg brackets, which were recalled and  exchanged for rigidly mounted brackets towards the
end of the 1985 model year. When I got the bike it still had the matching
Madison Silver battery side covers, but several of the mounting posts were
broken off on the back. I found these very early date-code-correct parts for the
bike, to use during the restoration. 

It's hard to believe that the K series bikes will soon be coming up on their 35th anniversary, and many BMW
collectors have been quietly adding these bikes to their collections
over the last several years. Here is your chance to add a very important early
model to your own collection.

A clear matching number title in my name is included with the bike. Please ask all questions before bidding. Payment is expected within one week of auction end,
and pickup/shipment is expected within one month of auction end. Personal
checks are fine, but the bike does not ship until all funds have arrived and
