Description BMW R80/7

BMW R80/7 (1st
lwb and crossover model before RT)

Built July 1978 first registered in the UK 1980. Current
mileage 103,000

I’ve covered 40,000 miles on this bike and it has never
broken down and has been a real pleasure to own, however it now needs some
mechanical and cosmetic work to bring it back up to scratch and I don’t have
the time or budget to do this due to a change in circumstances. Also I have a
knee injury which makes handling the bike difficult as it’s not light! Hence it’s
for sale!

Here are a few facts about it:-

Completely
restored in 2005 and 76000miles from crank up as follows:-

Powder coated frame, fork legs, wheels

Full stainless fittings kit including spindles

Rebuilt Gear Box – new bearings and seals by Mick Burns –
former chair of BMW club

Rebuilt bevel Drive – new bearings and seals by Mick Burns

Refurbished driveshaft by Keith Shaw

Refurbished forks and yoke bearing

New wheel bearings

Full engine rebuild back then including new shells, rebored
cylinders,(by Kegworth engineering) new pistons, oil seals, bearings, clutch,
boyer bransden electronic  ignition,
stainless pushrod tubes, 1985-on upgraded quieter valve gear, new valves and new
seats for unleaded fuel.

Rebuilt carbs by Scriminger

Rebuilt starter (Bosch)

Paint by Dream Machine

Handlebar brake cylinder conversion

Stainless brake hoses

Stainless brake cylinders

Stainless mirrors

Keihan Stainless exhaust system

New Seat

Perspex screen

Heated Grips

Original toolbox with lid (rare)

Original Toolkit and owners manual (rarer)

Every MOT since 2005 and some before.

Period magazine with article on the bike from 80s

Rebuild cost £4600! Bills to prove this and more spent
since!

Pro’s

All of the above!

The bike starts first time every time and there is no smoke.
It drives fine and pulls strongly!

The electrical system is healthy

Everything works apart from steering lock and seat lock
(bought a new seat lock but it was never right)

Optional twin disc model

Recent new Varta battery with optimate connector

Good and recent tyres – Metzler

Twin original horns – AND THEY’RE LOUD!!

Krauser original side panniers, and frames

Super rare original Krauser top box and rack (rack needs
welding)

Original rack and fittings included (currently off the bike)

Many spares
included with the sale (see pics) such as:-

Service items new and boxed, plugs, gaskets, filters etc

New ferodo brake pads

Spare indicators

Left hand drive headlight

RT bars

Spare pannier racks (need repair)

Two spare coils

Spare spark plug lead

Spare valve shims

Original handlebar pad (rare)

Spare switchgear

Set of engine bars and brackets (powder coated but never put
on the bike)

Spare pushrod seals

Spare original twistgrips (new)

Con’s

Engine is knocking – compressions good but a bearing is
going somewhere (see video). Sounds like top end.

Needs a new timing chain (guide was replaced at rebuild so
should be ok)

Some cosmetic work needed , small scratches on tank, and
light damage to seat cowl and side panel

No MOT - sure it would pass though – I’m just not insured for
it anymore

The indicator repeater light doesn’t work on the right (not
a problem as you can see the indicator!)

Slight oil leak from neutral switch (common fault but not
too bad)

Gear lever change rubber has gone who knows where…

I’ve tried to be as honest as possible here in my
description but obviously can’t account for everything. The winner will get a
pretty nice bike that needs some work. It could be ridden but I wouldn’t advise
it as further engine damage could result so a trailer or van is best for
collection.

 Serious bidders only
please, no dreamers or time wasters. Payment is by Paypal or cash
on collection – no px. Sorry no test drives but can be seen running (and
moving). Any inspection welcome for serious bidders. The winning bidder buys
the bike as seen with no warranty given or implied. Sorry no post sale
negotiations on price - what you bid is what you pay!

I will not sell any parts separately – you are bidding for
the lot!

I welcome any questions but will abide by ebay rules with
regard to purchase.

No reserve
