Description Austin 16 BS1 (1948)

Austin 16 BS1 (1948)

I have four classic cars (one in restoration), they are all beautiful and graceful but I can no longer justify keeping them all so I have decided to sell one of them to fund the restoration of the other ! It's sbeen a hard decision to part with my Austin 16 as she has been a great classic. However, this sale will allow me to keep them all on the road for future generations to enjoy and admire.

I have owned the Austin 16 BS1 for almost 4 years. She was originally registered on 20th May 1948. I have the original registration booklet and subsequent petrol rationing stamps.....This shows the original number plate as being FUS 44. I also have the original service manual.

These are increasingly rare vehicles, especially in this type of condition. She is finished in white with black wheel arches. She has also had a white interior, which looks great in any event but especially suited to weddings car use. I have used her for both personal use and weddings and the bride and groom have never been disappointed with the standard or performance of this great 1940's genuine classic. This is not a kit car but has all the original and authentic running gear, including the 2.2 4 cylinder engine.

The car originated from (and remained in the) Glasgow area throughout its life, only leaving to come to Mansfield when I bought her. She remained in private ownership throughout her life, originally being an olive green colour before her restoration. The car was past down in the same family for over 40 years before being thought to have been fully restored in c2011. It was taken 'off the road in 1972 (I have the MOT certs) following which it was fully restored in c2012 and has done less than 3,000 miles since !

I really want the number plate to remain with the car as this is authentic and it will, providing the bid exceeds the reserve. The number plate alone is valued at c£3k by DVLA.

There is no requirement to have these old ladies of the road MOT'd but I have always wanted piece of mind that they are roadworthy so I have past MOTs. The current MOT runs out in June 2018. I also have various other documentation from the previous owner (including a letter from the former owners daughter stating that the car had travelled to the mediterranean in 1956 - wow) so the pedigree is assured.

The car really is in great condition but as with all old cars, there will always be points that need attention so I will seek to be as honest as I can on several points that I would want to be aware of as a buyer: There is a need to touch up the paintwork on the bottom of the boot (where it has been catching on the lower panel when opened);
There is mild bubbling of the paint in a small area in front of the driver side window (where filler has most likely been used and not quite cured before spraying);
The front windscreen seal leaks on the right side when it rains hard (I haven't managed to cure it despite every effort); and
Very occasionally, she draws 'dirt' in from the fuel tank. There is an inline fuel filter but this needs blowing through and rinsing out when this happens (The tank could most probably benefit from being dropped off and cleaned out). Otherwise, she is in excellent condition and fully roadworthy.

I also have a range of spare parts, including pistons, engine block, fuel tank etc. These are all increasingly difficult to come by now and so I have been collecting bits and pieces as time passes. The winning bidder will get all of these included in the sale as I am so passionate about keeping these all ladies on the road. They need to be preserved for future generations as they are part of our motoring and engineering history.

If you have any questions, please feel able to ask. I also encourage all serious bidders to come and have a look before you bid. I am sure you won't be disappointed in the car but I would want to see the condition of a car if I was looking to bid! If you are interested in any aspect, call me on 07572105157.

Selling with reserve but it's a realistic one, as I want the car to be loved and cared for, for many more years to come. I don't have a buy it now price as I'm happy to see what auction bidding reaches. However, ring me if you want to discuss. Cash on collection preferred.

You can see my 100% ebay feedback so bid with confidence. Likewise, if you have any intention of bidding and not following through, please don't waste mine or your time. Serious and genuine bidders only please.

Happy bidding.

Thanks
