Description 1987 Land Rover Santana Defender 90

1987 Land Rover Santana Defender 90

VSELBABL8A2100417

NOTE:  THIS VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN DENIA, SPAIN, but I ship to the USA.  Please check my feedback, and please read the entire listing before bidding.

I am an American, living in Spain, and I sell and export vehicles to the USA regularly.  Although shipping costs are not included in the price of the sale, I work every month with an established worldwide shipper and will work directly with the buyer to arrange delivery to the USA.  I will drop the vehicle off at the port of Valencia for you at no additional cost, prepare all the proper documentation for shipping to the USA, and handle all the US customs and importation on the USA side.

If you would like me to handle the shipping, customs paperwork, and everything for you, the cost is a flat-rate of $1900, port-to-port, to your choice of New York, Baltimore, MD, Jacksonville, FL or Freeport (Galveston), TX.  No additional costs.  No work on your part.  You just pick the car up from the port, fully cleared and released.

Once the vehicle is in your possession, you will also have all the documents you need to register the car in any of 49 states.  (California excepted.)  I can even arrange transportation within the USA, from the port to your driveway.  In short, I am here to help with every step of the process of delivering this vehicle to you.

You are of course welcome to fly here and test the car for yourself before you bid, but if that is not feasible, I will be happy to take additional photos, videos, etc. and send them to you.  Whatever you need.  We can speak on the telephone, or by Skype, so you can see the vehicle in real time before you bid.

If you have any questions, please ask and I will post as many answers here as possible.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

Unrestored, but honest, original and very well kept, it looks like an early Defender, in a classic color combination and with very presentable cosmetics inside and out.

The body panels are straight except for some minor dings and scrapes here and there, and the paint work and original side striping is in good condition with no substantial damage anywhere.  The interior is correct and clean.  Front seat upholstery is excellent, except for a small area of wear on the driver's seat cushion.  The four individually folding rear jump seats are original and in excellent condition, and the factory full headliner is intact and very nice.

The chassis is entirely free of structural rust, with only some minor surface oxidation in some areas but absolutely no perforation or through-rust of any kind.  There is no rust in the frame rails, crossmembers, bulkheads, or bottoms of the doors.  It is solid and structurally rust free throughout.  The factory hard top is in great condition, and (despite the full headliner) is removable to allow the truck to be operated filly open if desired.

In short it is an original, well kept and very tidy Land Rover, with no immediate needs, that can be used daily without worry.

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?

It is mechanically excellent throughout, and drives as new.

The 2.5L engine fires immediately and idles smoothly with no smoke.  Power is excellent throughout the rev range and the five-speed manual gearbox is slick and crisp.  Clutch and brakes operate precisely as they should, with no noise or judder, and pedal travel for both systems is correct and normal.  With Defender power and 5-speed gearing, this is a legitimately highway-capable vehicle that can cruise all day at modern interstate speeds and yet still be astonishingly capable off road.

With factory-original parabolic springs, the ride quality is surprisingly compliant, and the original power steering makes manuevering in tight spaces light years better than the older Series trucks.  All gauges and lights work as intended, and the vehicle recently passed the stringent Spanish ITV national safety inspection.

It is a wonderfully modern and comfortable vehicle to operate, yet packs the post-tarmac chops of that Land Rover has always been legendary for.
