Description 1972 Land Rover Series 3 SWB 88" - Full MOT * GALVANISED CHASSIS* Tax Exempt

Thank you for looking at this auction for my 1972 (L) Land
Rover Series III 88” SWB 2.25 Petrol.
For those who know their Land Rovers will appreciate that this is
exactly the right Land Rover to buy, ticking all the right boxes in terms of
present and future use, investment and longevity having the benefits of:

12 Months MOT

Galvanised Chassis

Free Road Tax
(Historic Vehicle)

Very Cheap
Insurance (£72 per year comprehensive at agreed valuation of £10,000)

Over the past 12 months or so, I have been indulging myself in
a light restoration project of my Series III Land Rover, which included returning
the bodywork to bare metal before a full re-spray in the correct (and best
colour) Marine Blue.

On a galvanised chassis, this unmolested Land Rover is 100%
reliable and does not blow even a puff a smoke either at start up or whilst
running, all the gears (hi and lo) work as they should and it benefits from switchable
free-wheeling hubs whilst the brakes have received a complete overhaul (for recent
MOT).  All five of the tyres were
replaced about 600 miles ago with General Grabbers on Modula wheels.

During the light restoration, this Series received new doors, door tops and door mirrors (both sides), new halogen headlights, bare metal re-spray, new
wiper arms and blades and now proudly (and legally) wears its period black
pressed number plates.

The engine received oil and filter(s) service around six
months ago.

MOT tester comment "That's what we like, a galvanised chassis - no rust.  It drives really well for a Series and even brakes in a straight line.  I have owned three of them and this is the cleanest of them all"

Now for the caveat: Like me, this vehicle is in its mid-forties
and whilst it gets the job done it lacks the efficiency and enthusiasm of youth.  Seriously though, this is an old Series Land
Rover so to name every single niggle would be futile.  If you haven’t driven or owned one, you
probably will not realise how damn awful they are to drive, with each trip
being like a work-out (for your body and hearing).  During the restoration, I did nothing (other
than a light service) under the bonnet, so please do not expect the same shiny
appeal of the coachwork.  I considered
removing the engine and restoring the engine bay but the motor is so sweet, I
decided not to for fear of going too far.

The issues I will notify you of include: R/O/S leaf spring
saggy (simple to change but never bothered), thrust bearing sounds worn
although been like this forever and works perfectly (again easy fix), the hood
is better than fair/good but not immaculate and there are a number of dings and
dents (aluminium) to be expected.

Top speed probably around 65mph but I am not that brave, cruises
nicely at 45-50mph.

Engine is 100% sweet and original, showing exactly 69,976
miles (believed genuine but no proof).
Please note, it has not received hardened valves to run on stock
unleaded petrol, so requires a lead additive (cost about £1 on a full tank).

Other than that, please contact me with any questions.  If you leave your number, I will call you
back.

Sorry genuine buyers but following numerous past experiences, I cannot and will not tolerate
time wasters, which is the only reason why I haven’t published my telephone number.

I am not in need of the money, so please do not even attempt
to haggle after you have won the auction.  Vehicle is only for sale due to two new projects in garage (which Buyer will witness when they collect) and I do not want to leave the Land Rover outside for sustained periods unused.

Viewings are extremely welcomed and encouraged as opinions
regarding the condition of these older vehicles is highly subjective.  Having said that and probably because I
performed all of the work myself, my opinion is slightly lower than that of its
many admirers whom consider it to be excellent.  I will accommodate any inspection or test prior to auction end, which is why I have allowed 10 days on this auction.

If you are looking for low cost ownership of a classic
investment, with annual costs being around £100 (MOT and Insurance, tax is
free), a vehicle you can more or less fix with a hammer - they don’t come
much better than this.

Cleared funds or bank transfer prior to vehicle release and during the weekend immediately following the auction please.

Thanks for looking and good luck

Mark
