Description Rover 80 P4 1962

Thank you for looking at my Rover 80 P4. With Overdrive.

One owner 27,974 Miles. The registration number is not included in the sale of the Rover.

The Rover was purchased new from Foleys Garage, Swanage Dorset in September 1962, remaining with its owner, from then until he died recently. The Rover has been in constant use throughout this time, undergoing maintenance servicing and regularly MOTed. The earliest MOT I have is from 1983 when the mileage was recorded at 16,360 miles, the car covering 11,500 miles over the next 34 years. It is possible the Rover covered 100,000 miles in the years 1962 to 1983 (which would be under 5,000 miles per year for 21 years) unfortunately it is not possible to confirm either way.

The original tools under the dash are still present, as is the jack, although the starting handle is missing.

There are a lot of invoices which indicate the Rover had a re-paint around 2004 when new front and rear valances were fitted also the bumpers were re- chromed and wheels refurbished. A new set of carpets and front door cards were also fitted around this time. The original green leather seats are in very presentable condition, with some splits and creases and fifty five years of patina. A patch has been applied to the drivers seat back many years ago, and a full set of tailored cloth covers has been on them until recently. The original headlining is in excellent condition. There is a new, full set of five radial tyres fitted however the spare no longer fits in the wheel compartment as these are wider than original cross-plies. The boot still contains all the items carried by the owner, spare jack, water wellies gloves and some spares including front exhaust sections and carburettor service items. In the glove box are a spare spark plug and points. Being a school teacher the owner liked to be prepared.

The condition of the Rover is very good for a survivor car but it is not new or restored and so has its faults and room for improvement. However keeping her as a useable classic with ongoing maintenance and repairs as required would be possible. The Rover's current MOT runs out on August 3rd and is to be sold with a fail sheet or a pass depending on the outcome of the test, next week.

As the Rover has been used and maintained, it has had welding carried out to MOT standard, not necessarily to restored standard and so this must be taken into account. There are some areas of rust visible on the body which I have tried to show in the photos. This is a fairly unique opportunity to own a lovely example of a Rover 80 P4 which has had just the one owner.

The engine starts and runs beautifully the clutch operates smoothly and the gears engage with a light touch. The brakes also seem good. ( The MOT test may indicate otherwise).

MOT Status Update. The garage has done a pre MOT check and have advised that the handbrake requires adjustment/repair (not holding on ratchet) steering requires adjustment on stops as linkage is fouling. Additionally some welding is required on front outrigger. In view of this the car is being sold with the current MOT until 3rd August 2017.

Viewing the Rover is recommended to assess the condition for yourself. I am happy to answer questions through ebay or phone on 07522539674.
