Honda CX500 1981 motorcycle For Sale
Description Honda CX500 1981 motorcycle
Honda CX500 built 1980, first registered 1981. A later model unaffected by the cam tensioner problems from the 1979 model, this is a bike with a reputation for having a bullet proof engine, a liquid cooled v-twin with a maintenance free shaft drive! This has been my main bike for commuting to and from work over the last 3 years and has never missed a beat! As you can see from the photos, very good condition albeit with some minor age related marks for a 36 year old bike, however, is reliable enough for daily use.
Bike benefits from having a stainless steel Motad two into 1 which sounds much better than stock (pops on the overrun) but also does not corrode away like no tomorrow like the standard H collector box will. An Ignitech CDI unit has also been fitted which cost in the region of £150, this aids reliability as originals tend to die a death at the most unexpected times! New CX500 seat fitted (cost £140), new left and right Honda OEM grips as older ones had crumbled, New ceramic brake master cylinder for improved feel on the brakes (which are the dual disc not the single disc as per many of the other CX500s) and are linked with steel braided lines Louis American mirrors for improved coverage of rear, recent rear brake shoe replacement and new rear tyre, replacement shaft drive recently fitted within last few months so currently has reverse com star wheel at front and com star wheels at rear.
Plenty of tread left on tyres, all electricals and consumables are good, does have a new speedo which displays 35,000 first fitted reading 29,000 back in sept 15, the original speedo was on 52,000 (as per 2014 MOT) but engine was actually fully rebuilt in 2014 so has lots of life in her yet. Good compression and plenty of receipts, old MOTs etc to go with it.
Servicing and parts easily sourced from DavidSilvers who can do you a full service pack for £20 (air filter, spark plugs, oil filter, rubber gaskets) - really easy bike to maintain.
