Description CORTINA MK1 GT500

       This vehicle is offered for sale as is. The vehicle identification plate indicates a March 1965 build date so it  would be close to the first of 110 or so GT500's built in by Harry Firth to qualify for the 1965 Bathurst race.  However with the ravages of time , a new body shell was required with all available parts from the original car incorporated in the rebuild. The car is currently road registered, so one can enjoy driving it now. It has always been garaged since the rebuild and I would estimate that I have driven approximately 20000 miles. It also comes with the Ford Cortina GT500 Supplementary manual. Other details follow....
BODY:  This currently registered 1965 Cortina GT500 with original Ford Motor Co ID build plate (March 1965) has been re-shelled with a sound rust free 2 door body.  All available parts (wiring,all window glass,doors,instruments,original fuel and 8 3/4 auxiliary tank, body strips, badges,close ratio gearbox etc.,) were transferred to the replacement body. Paint is in good condition although bonnet could do with a respray. Vehicle has been garaged  for 28 years.
ENGINE: Reconditioned 116E block (not original 122E) re-bored to 1594cc, Powermax Pistons, Lotus Twin cam crankshaft and rods. Head not original, but modified and reconditioned with new valves and rings for unleaded 98 petrol. High volume increased pressure Kent Oil Pump. Camtech BP270 cam 25/59   35/62  Camshaft. (approx 60thou more lift than GT500 cam). Heavy duty rockershaft with steel posts.Diaphram clutch. Standard Weber 28/36 downdraft carburetor.
DRIVE-LINE: Original Lotus Cortina Close Ratio Gearbox. 1st 2.50:1; 2nd 1.64:1; 3rd 1.23:1; Top 1;1; Reverse 2.81:1. 3.9:1 Diff. Steering box appears to have a higher steering ratio than the standard 3.2 turns. Diaphragm clutch with 6 bolt flywheel.
SUSPENSION: Gas front shocks, 5 leaf rear springs, radius arms. New Hankook 185x13 Tyres on Minilite look-a-like rims.
BRAKES: Cortina MK2 thicker discs with power booster. Rear brakes standard GT with reconditioned stainless steel cylinder liners.There are no brake air scoops.
ELECTRICAL: Converted to negative earth, alternator, mechanical oil pressure and temperature gauges. Later model Lotus tachometer fitted (Original included in sale, but needs checking.)Heavy duty battery removed to boot. Electronic ignition fitted. Original Cortina push button radio.
INTERIOR: Black with green carpet. Front seats recovered in original style. Wood rimmed steering wheel, but original white one included in sale.Centre console vinyl has a crack and interior light need a cover. Fire extinguisher.
