Ferrari introduced the stunningly beautiful 308GTS at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 which marked a return to Pininfarina styling following the Bertone-designed Dino 308GT4. Badged as a ‘proper’ Ferrari rather than a Dino, the newcomer had changed little mechanically apart from a reduction in both wheelbase and weight, retaining its predecessor’s underpinnings and transversely mounted 3-litre quad-cam engine. This superbly engineered power unit produced 255bhp, an output good enough to propel the 308GTS to a top speed of 150mph. Bodies were initially constructed in fiberglass, which was the first time this material had been used for a production Ferrari, but the switch was made to steel bodywork after April 1977. Further developments included the introduction of an open-top GTS version with a Targa-style removable roof. 1979 was the last year that Ferrari offered carbureted motorcars with their distinctive burbling sound and much higher horsepower than the fuel-injected models which followed in 1980, but not before 2,185 steel-bodied, carburated 308GTS's were produced.

The example offered here is finished in classic Rosso Corsa Red with an impeccably-kept tan leather interior and Daytona Black accents. With only 16,551 miles, it is an extraordinary original survivor that still retains its original tools and owners manual. Careful examination of this motorcar reveals details that are unique to an original car that cannot be replicated by restoration. It is a prime candidate for Ferrari Classiche certification and all classes of Concours competition including Preservation Class. Detailed service records accompany this car including an $18K invoice which documents a recent complete engine-out service during May 2015. This service inspection included a cam belt change, new belt tensioners and valve adjustment. This is arguably the best example of a Ferrari 308GTS to be found on the market today and we’re proud to offer this investment-grade GTS to the most astute collector or enthusiast who demands the best. Ready to make an investment you can actually enjoy? According to a recent article in Bloomberg, the current average value across the 308 range is up 190% since 2011. High Retail Value
This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle *.* "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle is not driven. It would generally be in a museum or transported in an enclosed trailer to concourse judging and car shows. This type of car would be stored in a climate-regulated facility.

Daniel Schmitt & Company has described the above mentioned vehicle to the best of our ability. However, as with all pre-owned automobiles, the condition is subjective, and we recommend that the potential buyer fly out to inspect as well as test drive any of our vehicles before finalizing their purchase. If it is not feasible for you to personally perform an inspection, we will gladly help facilitate an inspection by an independent service center of your choice and will make delivery arrangements of the vehicle for this purpose. All vehicles are sold in "AS IS" condition. Extended warranty options are available on most vehicles. Our goal is to provide you with the best service and buying experience as possible. (ATTENTION INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please be aware that you will be responsible for the Federal Reserve fee(s) charged for all incoming wires).

In regards to winning bidders and Buy It Now customers: All winning bidders and Buy It Now bidders are encouraged to fly out and personally inspect the vehicle. If you deem the vehicle is not as represented upon personal inspection, we will not only refund your deposit, but will also reimburse your airfare at the cost of a coach ticket. Feedback must be left at the time of delivery upon final inspection.

Pertaining to non-eBay winners: Anyone who has provided a deposit but whose purchase is still pending, please note that said vehicle will not be held and is subject to being sold at any time until all contingencies are removed and the purchase order is signed.
