Description 1966 TRIUMPH THUNDERBIRD 6TA ROGER JONES COMPREHENSIVE RESTORATION.

THUNDERBIRD!!!       1966 Triumph 6TA

 1966 Triumph Thunderbird 6TA

This listing is for a beautifully restored Triumph Thunderbird.  It’s hard to imagine a more famous model name than “Thunderbird”.  It was introduced by Triumph in late 1949 and, of course, later (1955)  borrowed by Ford for it’s famous two-seater sports car.  The T-Bird was a significant breakthrough for Triumph as a 650cc production motorcycle and had an extremely successful run of 17 years ….ending in 1966.  This motorcycle was given a comprehensive restoration by Roger Jones and as you can see from the pictures, the workmanship is, once again, excellent!  These are not the easiest (or least expensive) of motorcycles to restore…a lot of detail and parts that are unique to this model.  Examples are the headlamp nacelle, the light colored grips, side covers and so forth.  As you can see, this restoration features all of those things in a very accurate, high quality restoration with a lot of N.O.S. parts used.  Even the rims, which are in excellent condition, retain the Dunlop logo and sizing information.  As always, with a Roger Jones restoration, nothing was overlooked and the objective was to produce the best example possible of the 1966 Thunderbird.  Again, look at the pictures!  The motorcycle was rebuilt mechanically with new parts wherever possible.  That included the engine, transmission and all other mechanical components.  The motorcycle was given a short checkout run without using this beautifully restored (inside, and out) tank. It has since been on display in my personal collection.  The finish work is the best, most accurate you will find.  In 1966 the Triumph model line included the Bonneville, TT and the Thunderbird.  The Thunderbird being the single carb and most expensive of those three models.  It was kept in the line up as the “touring” model.  But, it was regarded as out of date…still featuring the headlamp nacelle styling.  It just couldn’t compete with the highly successful (and much sportier) Bonneville and by 1967 it was dropped from the model line up.  There are few of these models still around and almost none in this beautifully restored condition.  As often happens, you have a famous name (Triumph Thunderbird) with limited 1966 production, end year of the model line and few good examples still around….that’s a collectors dream!!  Is this the most collectible value of the Triumph product line?….don’t know….could be!  In any case, it is a motorcycle that is destined to gain in value over the years.  This outstanding example is being offered with a starting bid of $9,899.  There is a small reserve, but, well under the cost of finding one of these models today and having it restored to this level.  Hagerty pricing shows #1 concourse at $14,000! And yes this is an excellent concourse restoration. Good luck bidding…you won’t be disappointed!  Oh yes, matching numbers and a clear title !

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
Please note that we sell motorcycles on consignment.  If the motorcycle is a “rider”, then we clean it, check fluids and start it….then photo and list it.  If the motorcycle is restored and has been in a private collection, then we clean it, photo it and list it.  If you buy one of these outstanding, restored motorcycles and intend to ride it, we recommend that you carefully service the motorcycle (or have this done by a professional) to prepare it for the road.  Things such as tires may be New Old Stock, more than 25 years old and as such are quite valuable, but, potentially not roadworthy.  Thank you for your understanding.  We love selling these incredible motorcycles….we want every buyer to be pleased and safe!
