Description Marmon - Model 78 - 1929 - 2 Door Coupe

We are proud to offer this stunningly restored 1929, Marmon, Model 78, 2 Door Coupe.

Believed to be only  1 of 2, known to exist in the World.

Believed to have been delivered new to Switzerland and fitted with a kilometres per hour speedometer.

This car is a fixed head coupe with rumble seat, golf locker and dual side mounts with a body by Hayes.

Straight eight overhead valve engine of 3600cc. One of two Marmons sent to Peter Orlainsky in Austria for complete restoration by the Swiss owner in the early 1980’s.

It was subjected to the most fastidious nut and bolt restoration costing over £125,000 of which there is a huge photographic file. It is believed that the car has run only a miniscule mileage from new and has never been subjected to abuse and shows no signs of even minimal rust at any time in its life.

The odometer shows just 4,000 kilometres which is probably genuine as inspection of the gearbox internals reveals the original machining marks. Finished in two subtle shades of maroon with black mudguards and a peppermint green interior.

Although restored sometime ago the car has never been driven more than a few miles and is still of the quality that would be welcomed at Pebble Beach and would easily take top prize in any concours.

Carefully stored by the present owner in a cocoon within a heated garage but maintained and serviced every year.

Without a doubt the very finest Marmon available anywhere in the world today.

Overall concours winner at the Pre 50 American Auto Club meeting at Knebworth House in 2008.
