Description 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo S

The 944 model series ran from January 1982 with the 944 Lux and culminated with the 944 Turbo launch in 1986. Production of the entire range ceased in 1992.

Later Turbo cars, those from 1988 onwards, benefitted from a larger turbocharger that increased bhp from 220 to 250bhp. Also, limited slip differential, uprated suspension and brakes and sports disc design wheels became standard. Come 1989, the model was further enhanced with catalyst engine, rear spoiler and full sports exhaust making our 1990 Turbo the highest specification and most desirable of the range.

Offered in Alpine White with Marine Blue leatherette seats as the Certificate of Authenticity confirms it possessed when new, it was further optioned with headlamp washers, sports seats with electric height adjustment, high fidelity speaker package, top tinted windscreen, sun roof and partial leather front seats.

Its appearance belies its genuine 103,000miles thanks in no small part to the near £27,000 lavished on it between 2012 and 2015 to make the car exceptional. This included mundane items like anti-roll car bushes and fluid changes, to the fitment of new power steering rack, the supply and fit of a 9XX performance head, the fitment of Koni adjustable suspension with front top mounts, new radiator, new cluth, new flywheel, new crank sensors, new sump gasket, new fuel lines, gearbox service etc etc. The list is endless, and truly eye-watering. The result however is very impressive. The car now returns more than 270bhp as tested on the dyno, and is a real eyeful to behold.

The 944 with its four cylinder engine perhaps struggled for its moment in the sun against its six cylinder siblings, however, the once tightly guarded secret that is the Porsche 944 Turbo has well and truly arrived, as this recent Pistonheads article on the model will attest:

Our car is offered with no fewer than 17 stamps in the original service book, a wealth of past MOT test certificates (as well as the recently granted current one), and an enormous number of invoices for the work which details not only the recent £27,000 expenditure but also much more before….
