Description RARE 1958 DESOTO FIREDOME COUPE CHRYSLER FORWARD LOOK
Up for auction is my Rare 1958 Desoto Firedome Coupe .
Everyone has watched Christine and loves the 58 Plymouths , But the Desoto was a much wilder and desirable looking and driving car , and in act much rarer . From my observations around 40-50 of these coupes are now left worldwide .
Due to the rarity of these Desotos in Coupes This is probably the best starting point you will find and I have restored many parts already making the job easy . The only rust left in in the rear pillars and above the back window in the channel , one spot in the rear of the RH Sill and just starting at the front of the sill . Its pretty straight and would be an easy job to complete for someone who has more room and better facilities than I do.
It has its born with 361 V8 and Auto and Run well , and the complete front end has been rebuilt and painted as have the radiator and motor has been regasketed , cleaned and painted . Its basically ready to start other than the wiring at the front of the car .
All the side stainless was repaired and polished by Gary Tishler which cost just under $1K , the rear exhaust pods were restored and rechromed , and it has the mega dollar rear overiders on the ends of the bumpers, they are $1200 worth all day lons as they are rechromed also . It has had all the trim restored using period style vinyls and Cloth /chrome piping from SMS and includes the door trims front and rear and the rear lower armrest panels which look amazing is pastel yellow/charcoal/black . New Headlining is also there and correct sewn ACC Carpet . Also all the piping for the door has been made up So basically the complete trim has been completed at about $8K . The original Date coded wheels are mint and have been correctly painted and have had the industrial grey painted inside and new Hankook Whitewall tyres fitted .
The Radiator support , skirts , top locking panel , boot floor , main floor , RH Guard and RH Door and all finished and were to be painted in a pastel yellow and white flash and roof . .
I have run out of steam as the car is more labour than money now , which is a shame as everyone know how much of a nutcase I am on 58 Desoto , but that's just how life goes . My only other option is to put into storage which is more money , so here it is for sale as there isn't room here anymore (again !) The car is partly disassembled at this time , but easily go together for transport . Please only genuine enquiries , this will be a pretty big dollar car when finished if you are up for it and would blow most other car right out of the water when finished in the looks department and tehse cars drive so nice compared to other cars of that era . These are simple to work on and maintain and have normal ball joints , normal oil filters (not cartridge) , and normal steering box (not ram) , making it a great choice of car to enjoy the 50s dream !
