Description Mg Midget - for renovation - Holy Grail car - Low mileage - 2 owner

For the avoidance of any issues - please ensure you have the funds to pay for the item and intend to collect / arrange collection within a short period of time of winning the auction.

I may be able to deliver locally to Boston, Lincoln, Sleaford or surrounding area or possibly slightly further afield for some of the folding stuff.

This is a "Holy Grail" Chrome Bumper Midget.

The chap I bought it off had bought it on 3/8/1977 from the original purchaser of the car.

It was driven until late 1980 which appears to be when the last MoT was issued at 45,888 Miles on 30th October 1979.

After that, the car was taken off the road and stored. Since then it has moved around a bit in storage until recently when it was moved to his daughters drive. Some restoration has been done on the mechanical side of the car. Namely the engine being painted and various ancillaries and also the rear axle. Since then the previous owner's health has deteriorated which has halted progress

Time has been fairly kind to the car. There is some rot in the front chassis "H" and there is also some in the bottom of the "A" post but this is not extensive.  Other than that the car appears really quite solid.

Being a Round Wheel Arch car with wire wheels makes it fairly desirable but the fact it has such low mileage with so few owners makes it very special.

The car will however need some restoration / renovation. I would do this myself but unfortunately I have to reduce the number of cars I am working on due to space pressures and this car would not be touched for a while and also I think it deserves a proper and sympathetic restoration so I am passing it over.

The work needed seems to be mainly the front chassis, Drivers "A" post, possibly the battery tray. There is a bonnet but it needs repair on the front edge (where they all go) but also on the rear edge where it has rotted.

The rear of the car and the floors look solid, sound solid and appear to be original.

The car was originally Harvest Gold in colour.

There is no soft-top roof but I can supply a frame and a tatty hood which will keep the car dry.

The engine has been partly stripped of it's appendages. The carbs have been covered in red oxide to protect them. The air boxes were in the boot and the paint on these has deteriorated. The engine turns over easily. I have been assured that the engine has not had any work done on it and is original. One of the engine mounts has sheared and the rubbers have perished. I think the front panels of the car had been removed for some time and the weather or damp has affected these.

The distributor will need overhauling.

There is some documentation to go with the car - old MoT's and tax discs and the original V5 document. Due to the length of time the car has been off the road it has not had a V5c issued and no longer appears on the DVLA site. The V5c should just be issued once the new owner requests one but if not then having some of the older documents evidencing the registration number will help.

I haven't sent off the old V5 document yet but will give a full receipt on purchase.

I think most people will appreciate that this is a special car. The fact it does not appear to have been touched by a welder is quite phenomenal considering its age.

Note to scammers & spammers ......... I'm not interested...... I may have been born at night but I wasn't born last night........ I may even be slightly abusive in my retort should you decide to contact me and try to mug me off.........I'm pretty certain I've heard all the scams so please don't think you are being original.........In short - take the hint.........Don't bother !!!

I will be leaving the auction running until a deposit is left for the car. Please forward any serious offers for consideration. Joke offers and offers from people with rubbish feedback or poor results will be ignored.
