*Abarth-specification engine by Middle Barton Garage

*One owner from new until 2011
*8,600 miles from new
*Unique specification The standard of this Fiat is incredible; it’s been developed by some highly regarded top level motor sport practitioners and is fresh from the stock of the huge car enthusiast and Top Gear host Chris Evans. The Fiat was all the idea of Mike Jordan, legendary racer and expert race car preparer as well as British GT Championship winner and father of Andrew Jordan, the outright BTCC champion in 2013. Historically Andrew’s mum drove a Fiat 126 and it was some fond memories of that car that was to provide the inspiration for Mike to create this unique Fiat 126 “Abarth”. Historically there was never a Fiat 126 Abarth version, but this re-build has been detailed to use Abarth components and here we have something that is a little different from a basic 126. In 2011 a pristine 126 was found on display in a Fiat main dealership – mint and rust free with just 6,668 recorded miles by just one elderly lady owner! It was the perfect candidate for restoration and upgrading, not to mention repainting in the eye-catching colour scheme – bit of a transformation from its subtle 80’s brown colour.
Over the next year this little Fiat was totally stripped down and re-built to a very special specification by Mike using highly respected services as he required, such as: Abarth experts Middle Barton Garage in Oxfordshire were commissioned to rebuild the engine to Abarth specification complete side-draught carburettor, Abarth camshaft, new pistons, new clutch, up-rated gearbox, stronger drive shafts, uprated suspension and an Abarth exhaust system. To give an idea of depth of the re-build the expense here was around £5k. For the bodywork Mike took the 126 to Normandale Refinishing in Daventry who are one of the most reputable motorsport preparation and paint finishing companies in the UK. Here the Fiat had the bodywork lavished on and treated to the most glorious bright hue (Porsche Continental Orange). It may be the most diminutive of cars, but now you will see it coming from miles away!
To finish off the interior was re-trimmed in black with new matching carpets and to the body were fitted new chromed bumpers together with a new sporting set of Minilite wheels and tyres. The addition of the Abarth Scorpion logo badge on the gleaming engine lid was the icing to the cake! Today it remains a unique little car that has been built to an extremely high standard and can provide a huge amount of fun, oh and it brings smiles to faces wherever it goes!
A262 OUR comes with 12 months MOT and is in pristine condition, the odometer was 6,668 miles in Sep 2011, 7,788 miles in Aug 2012, 8,300 miles in Sep 2013, 8,345 miles in Feb 2015 and now is showing 8,590 miles as of late Feb 2016.
Abarth Note
'The performance of FIAT engines, as modified by Carlo Abarth, has for long been held to verge on the supernatural.' – John Bolster, Autosport magazine.
After leaving Cisitalia in 1948, Austrian-born engineer Carlo Abarth set up as an independent in Turin, the home of the Italian auto industry. From producing induction and exhaust systems, Abarth branched out into selling performance kits for - mainly Fiat - production cars, later building a highly successful series of sports prototypes and limited-series production cars, many of which were produced in conjunction with Carrozzeria Zagato. An innovative concern with a sporting pedigree second to none, Abarth was taken over by FIAT in 1972.
