Description Original GL1000

I’ve been building, repairing and restoring four cylinder
Goldwings for over twenty years. Some of my work is in private museums or owned
by Honda collectors and sports personalities. As a young man, I sold Hondas during college.I know what they're supposed to look like and how they're supposed to run. Recently, I had an opportunity to purchase this Gold
Wing from an old customer of mine, who purchased it out of a collection in 2003. When he bought a new bike, this one was put away in his basement
until I retrieved it late last year. What I liked about this example is it had
never had a fairing mounted, all wiring was intact and hadn’t been exposed to
the elements. It has become much more difficult as of late to find models that haven't been thrashed by home mechanics or "customized" into something unrecognizable and unsuitable for collection. I found here an opportunity to contribute a Gold Wing for your evaluation as an addition, either to ride or show, knowing fair well that examples nearly 40 years old are becoming increasingly scarce.

Because of its extremely low miles and condition, I decided
to do as close to a reference grade restoration as possible but resolved to
maintain its originality, specifically, the paint on the bodywork and wheels
and using nothing but OEM parts for every facet of its reconstruction. There
are no foreign parts or fasteners on the bike, its 100% Honda.

Taking into account the fact that this bike sat a long time,
I decided to fix things that weren’t broken yet, but would fail in the future.
Thus, I replaced head gaskets after having the heads resurfaced, belts, water
seals, water pump, front cover gaskets- anything I could do while the engine
was apart, as shown in the pictures.

The brakes were attended to with the calipers cleaned and
painted, ditto rebuilt rear master cylinder. I opted to powder coat the front master
prior to rebuilding, while mounting a new reservoir. The rear splines were cleaned,
then relubed as well as the steering head bearings in the front. Again, see
pictures.

As you can imagine, this was all a lengthy process.

I turned my attention next to the alloy on the motor casings
and forks. These were stripped, hand sanded in a soapy solution, then run
through the buffer. I took the liberty of polishing the centers on the calipers
as well. There was surface rust on the inner fenders and tail light housing,
which was removed, then base coat/ clear coated. The right muffler has a ding
on the end and had surface rust on the bottom side, which was cleaned and heat
coated. The left exhaust was replaced at this time. The shocks and a majority
of the fasteners were vatted, then cleaned and remounted. The battery box was
stripped, repainted and now holds a new sealed battery.

The carbs have been gone through, cleaned and synched,
towers polished. The fuel tank is clean. The tires are Dunlops, that have seen
very little use and are in good shape. The rims, hubs and rotors look new. Also, the owner's handbook and toolkit are included. They also appear as new.

The bike has been thoroughly cleaned and waxed roughly seven
or eight times now, runs and drives perfectly and should require nothing more
than normal maintenance for years to come.  It can be shown and should place well, even
with the most discerning judge.

Please note***Title is listed as clear, as there is an open clear Florida title in the paperwork. This bike was not titled in GA, (not required on vehicles older than 1986) but tags were purchased, thus only bill of sale to GA buyers is available. I do have in mind a buy it now price, but won't list it due to past auction mischief. For price or further details, contact me directly at 770 561 7646. Ed Cunningham. Unless otherwise arranged, winning bidder must paypal me $500 at close of auction, remainder within three business days.
