Description Jaguar: XJ XJE

1970 Series II Jaguar XKE Convertible
Interior - Grey leather seats, grey carpets
Body Style – Coupe Convertible Roadster
The vehicle is in generally excellent restored overall
condition. A concour level restoration was completed between 1998 and
approximately 2001. Respecting the odometer gauge, this vehicle has been driven
less than seven thousand miles since the restoration and has been kept in
stored in a heated facility for the previous 15 years. Restoration invoices
exceed $250,000.00 Cdn with the receipts and restoration history available for
inspection. During the restoration process, a new Martin Robey body shell, body
panels and underside unibody frame components were used. Martin Robey was
established in 1978 and is known throughout the UK as a manufacturer and
supplier of quality body shell and frame components.
The body was professionally prepared and painted in a
factory available Indigo Blue non-metallic base coat / clear coat finish. The
body preparation and paint application is professional quality standards. The
non-metallic dark blue exterior paint remains in excellent condition throughout
and the exterior steel body panels with few very slight paint chips noted. The
front bonnet is in excellent damage free condition. The bonnet assembly opens
properly with it’s inside release latches. The vented bonnet assembly is complete
with mouldings in excellent condition.
Both steel doors are in generally excellent condition. A
single minor body dent was noted on the right door panel. Both doors are
excellent in fit with smooth unbinding operation. The doors are fitted with new
weather stripping throughout. Chrome plated handle assemblies are in excellent
condition.
The lower rear underside pan is in excellent damage free
condition. The original rear tail and backup light assemblies are in excellent
condition. The wrap-around rear chrome plated bumper and bumper guard
assemblies are in excellent condition. The rear trunk lid is in excellent
condition. The trunk compartment accommodates the spare tire and jack. The
compartment has completed detailing work with excellent grey matting and
siding. The underside body floor pans are protected by a gravel guard
application and unibody frame components are in excellent condition. The chrome
plated windshield mouldings are in excellent condition as are the replacement
tinted and shaded windshield and door glass. A canvas convertible top has been
fitted to the restored factory original top frame, both in excellent condition.
The front chrome plated bumper, bumper guards and bumper
over-rider are in excellent condition. The original amber lensed turn indicator
lights are in excellent condition. Fitted are replacement halogen headlights,
complete with chrome plated headlight mouldings and surrounds.
Pirelli 205/70R/15 blackwall radials are fitted. They show
minimal treadwear by visual inspection and are mounted to reproduction chrome
plated wire wheels with 3-prong centre-lock spinners. Some minor pitting has
been noted. The interior was re-upholstered using Bas Jaguar Trim Specialities
to original specifications. The bucket style chairs were rebuilt and
reupholstered in grey leather. The grey vinyl door panels and interior trim
panels were replaced. All in excellent condition. The black dash pad is in
excellent condition. The dash was restored and fitted with original Smiths
instrumentation. The interior floor carpets are in excellent condition
inclusive of the rocker panel coverings. The center console, original 4-speed
wood shifter knob are in excellent condition. The vehicle is equipped with an
aftermarket in-dash Blaupunkt AM/FM Cassette Stereo.
Motive power is by correct 4.2 Litre inline dual overhead
camshaft six-cylinder mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and correct jaguar
differential. The drivetrain has been completely rebuilt as part of the
restoration process. Some mechanical modifications have been noted: The
original equipment Zenith carburetors have been replaced with triple Weber
carburetors. A new replacement stainless steel exhaust system has been
installed. The ignition has been upgraded with MSD components. Girling 4-wheel
disc brakes have been overhauled along with the suspension and steering
components.
This clean 1970 Jaguar starts right up and idles perfectly. Drives
smooth and straight. All the lights, horn and wipers are functioning
properly.  All the gauges work.  There are no tears in the soft top. This car
is one of the last 4.2 liter, 6 cylinder E-types built. This car was entered
into the first annual Cobble Beach Concour’s D’elegance 2014, hosted in Owen
Sound Ontario, Canada and was a fierce competitor amongst its competition. This
car could be used as a daily driver or a great show car on the weekends!
