Description BMW K100 Cafe Racer - NR

Up for sale is a freshly built 1987 BMW K100 (non ABS) Cafe racer conversion. A unique machine in its entirety.
This bike is completely unique, the new owner of this bike will own a bike like no other. This is the best example of a K100 Cafe racer you will ever find. Many attempt to café the “flying brick” and fail, points for trying, but they look nothing like this.
The “flying brick” as it is called, is not an easy bike to café, however I like challenges in my builds, and I see beauty and potential in those that others would shy away from. I have perfectly executed this build to appeal even to the purist K100 fans.
Total build process took 40 weeks in total, with all workmanship done by professionals, and of course myself. A good friend from DVMC Motorcycles fabbed up the chromoly bolt on subframe which was later polished, underseat electrics bay, seat pan base, and battery box located under the swing arm. Paint scheme chose for this build is 2K Audi metallic gunmetal grey (tank), Audi Dolomite grey (frame) and wheels are satin black. Engine was completely stripped and treated with gloss black, with the engine covers treated with Harley Davidson texture spray to make it stand out from the crowd. The BMW emblem and fins have also been polished.
Electrics on this bike has been completely overhauled with the implementation of new solid state hardware from Motogadget Germany. If you know nothing about Motogadget, I suggest you jump online and familiarize yourself with their craftsmanship. Motogadget is world leader in Bespoke electronic componentry, and you pay for quality. Motogadget accessories for this build alone cost $2,800.00 direct from Motogadget Germany, Which include: • m-unit, X 2 m-swithes, • m blaze mini disc bar end indicators
• m button
• motoscope mini
• motosign
• m-lock RFID ignition system which is currently not connected but comes with the bike.
I am not going to describe what all the above do, so please jump online on www.motogadget.com
Other notable accessories to compliment the Motogadget setup is the custom made CNC black anodised upper triple yoke that has been purposely build to accommodate the motoscope mini and motosign. No big dials protruding from the front on this bike, all clean and minimal. About being minimal, indicators apart from the abovementioned Motogadget m blaze bar ends LED’s, imported from the U.S are fork mounted wrap around LED indicators, and at the rear you have Rizoma LED dual purpose indicators which consist of running, brake and turn. Mounted on the rear subframe is a Flexible Array LED brake, turn, running light. When you see this in action it is truly amazing. Again minimal but functional.
Again the RFID ignition lock is no connected (keyless start) however the bike is activated by the M-unit via push start position on the upper triple, clean and simple. The handlebars are clean with no bulging control units; just 2 Motogadget mini switches control everything on the bike. Rear mono shock suspension has been upgraded to an YSS special build system, fully adjustable damper by turning of a dial. Front forks have been rebuilt and new fork oil added. Other upgrades include:
• BSK Speedworks CNC milled solid billet aircraft grade rear sets • BSK 4-1 exhaust collector • Conical GP exhaust with removable baffle.
• 41mm m works clip on bars
• Brembo rear master cylinder
• Rizoma rear brake reservoir • Brembo rear hydraulic bolt switch
• Front and rear Venhill Powerhose Plus self-aligning braided brake lines
• German CNC customs headlight brackets & front master cylinder
• Adjustable brake and clutch levers • CNC custom BMW tank emblems from OSHMO U.S.A
• CNC custom tank filler cap and assembly
• Billet alloy radiator overflow • Perforated custom made real leather street tracker seat • SSB battery
• Fork gaitors • New café H4 headlight
• U.K imported belly pan (Audi gun metal)
• New grills (belly pan / radiator)
• New clutch cable
• New throttle cable
• Uni-filter air filter
• X 4 new iridium spark plugs
• Stainless steel braided fuel lines
• Ignition key relocation
• BMW K1200 rear wheel – chose a different model wheel to accommodate a larger rear tyre. (FRONT 100/90-18 REAR 160/60-17)
Mechanically the bike is perfect. The K100 is built like a tank and they last forever. When I purchased the bike it had 87,000km on the clock which super low for this model bike. New seals and gaskets on the engine covers.
All fluids have been flushed and changed (radiator, engine, gearbox, final drive)
Splines have been serviced and lubed accordingly.
The bike starts first time every time, and it sounds amazing.
I am reluctant to sell the bike however I have my eye on a new project, and I will probably end up selling that one also. The journey of the build is what I love about the “built not bought” scene, and this bike is definitely one that follows that theme.
The bike has only travelled less than 100kms since build completion, and that was to make sure that it runs perfect and to tweak whatever is needed to get it right.
The bike certainly gets attention wherever it goes, and I have lost count of how many conversations I have had with the people wanting more details about the bike on the street. I am very proud of this build, no corners have been crossed, everything about this bike is perfection and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every possible nut and bolt on this bike has been replaced and care was taken to choose the right accessory to complement its uniqueness. Nothing but the best.
The bike is fully registered with 12 months registration.
The bike is for sale, however I am in no rush to sell. I WILL NOT respond to silly offers to sell this bike way below what it is worth; so if you want a cheap build quality bike, I suggest you look elsewhere as this bike is not for you.
Potential buyers are most welcome to view the bike in person, and I suggest that you do. Pictures do not do this bike justice, once you see it in person, you will really appreciate all the hard work behind this project. Test rides are welcome, however should you damage the bike, consider it sold.
Happy to answer any questions.
If you are on Instagram, check out CSEVEN77 for more pictures on the build process.
This bike is advertised elsewhere. I have the right to cancel the sale at any time.
Bid to buy, don’t waste your time or mine. Serious buyers only.
Should you decide to purchase this bike from me, you will own a bike like no other. There is no other K100 Café Racer like it. You will be riding a unique piece of machinery.
Things to note:
I have just noticed that there is a small oil leak from the clutch assembly just near the battery box / stand. This is most likely the rear main seal or clutch 0-ring have deteriorated. I have purchased the parts needed to replace these, along with the clutch retention bolts and washers which are needed every time the clutch is removed. These will come with the sale. You may attempt to replace these on your own as it is not that difficult. However should you require a professional, I can organize my friend at DVMC motorcycles (who built the subframe and built the motorbikes for the 2015 Mad Max movie) to fix this for you. I will reduce the sale price by $250. I would do this change myself however I just don’t have the time.
Payment to be made by cash or bank cheque. If by cheque, you will receive the bike once the funds clear into my account.
Thanks for looking.
