Description Riley 11.9 sidevalve 1925

This wonderfully presented period motor has the benefit
of a full and well documented provenance since 1948. There is no known history
of this car prior to ww2.  She was
reputedly pulled from a bombed out private garage in Bristol in 1948 by the
first post war owner Max Williamson of Stroud a well known early member of the
VSCC and a true character motorist. She was eventually to become the Riley
Register club concourse winner in 1958.
She was then sold to Ken Gilling the club president in 1961 and in 1964
sold to a fellow Riley register member who totally rebuilt/restored the car
over the following years. Between the late 50’s and 2013 she never actually saw
the open road and was eventually sold to the present owner in  2013 who recommissioned the car and put her
on the road to make her return appearance to the Riley Register Club concourse
that summer.
The most significant and important feature of the car is
that it is an original 2 door Sports Special, A small number of these 2 door
cars were built by Riley but only two are known to survive the other having
also recently reappeared. These cars are not to be confused with the none-original
replicas that appear now and again.
The car has a delightful patina throughout and is both
structurally and mechanically sound and reliable. The interior, hood and
sidescreeens are all in excellent condition. All the original brightwork has
been re nickel plated and is beautiful except for the Auster screen which is
with the car but unrestored.
The car was fitted with a special original production Ricardo
crankshaft, head and camshaft in the 60’s changing the firing order to 1342. These cars were guaranteed to do
60MPH in the 1920’s and she is certainly still capable of such speeds.
