Description VANDEN PLAS 1300 PRINCESS CARLTON GREY. NOT AUSTIN MORRIS RILEY

Hello and welcome the auction of my Vanden Plas Princess 1300. The car was originally supplied new from Morris and Pidgeon, BMC distributers in Plumstead, South East London on 4th June 1969.

The original order form and sales invoice are in the paperwork file. The invoice, when the car was new, shows that the first owner paid extra for wing mirrors at 3 shillings and 9 pence, underbody seal at £15 and inertia seat belts at £15, 16 shillings and 8 pence. The total invoice for the car 'on the road' was £1031, 5 shillings and 11 pence. This was alot of money in 1969, when the equivilent Austin or Morris 1300 would have been around £650.

The car has light grey leather interior which is in very good order. Excellent wool headlining. All the instruments work except the clock. The wood dashboard and door tops need re vaneering to bring the interior up to an excellent standard. The car has the original light grey wilton carpets.

Mecanically the car drives well, pulling well through all the gears. The exhaust is blowing from the exhasut manifold, so could do with some attention there, but the car pulls really well in all gears,  with good oil pressure. The car may benefit from new clutch hydraulics, but this maybe due to lack of use as the clutch pedal occaisionally sticks down at the floor.

Bodily the car is sound where it needs to be. The rear subframe area is solid, as is the subframe.

The rear arches have had repair panels in the past, and the bottom of the rear wings would benefit from some attention in the future. The drivers side inner wing has had some welding in the past, and the car has had two new front wings in the past. There is some corrosion on the front panel under the headlamps that can be dealt with in the future. The bodywork would benefit from a re paint to bring it back to its former splendour. It is not mint condition, but worth spending time on it, which I dont have the spare time.

The MOT runs until 26th May, 2016. The car is tax exempt.

This is a great starter classic car that can be restored as a rolling restoration as and when you can work on it. There is a massive file to go with this car, with the original 'Passport to Service' booklet and original order form and sales invoice, and masses of history with records of every thing ever done to the car until about 2003.

Sensible bids only please. I reserve the right to end this auction early.
