Description Honda GL1000 Gold Wing Classic

I bought this bike in July 1992 and restored it during the winter/spring of 92/93. Since then I have used the bike for dry summer miles and have covered a measly 15000 miles. That is the main reason that I am selling it now. I have a number of other bikes and spend large parts of time out of UK now so it will be best to let someone else get pleasure from it. The bike is being sold with no known faults other than a small mark on the right-hand side tank panel. This is shown in the pictures and was not caused by be. At sometime someone has dripped brake fluid from the front master cylinder onto the panel and it has slightly marked the paint work. I originally had a NOS panel but my pressure washer removed some of the pin stripping on that panel so the substitute one was fitted. The NOS panel just needs sorting but I haven't had the time. The winning bidder will also receive the NOS panel.
It was restored to original condition. At first I used to tour the shows with it and it won prizes. Over the next 23 years it only got wet once and has also received some slight wear marks from the odd stone chip. That's all though and is still in extremely good condition. It would still be a show winner if that's your thing. I have photos,receipts etc. to substantiate the rebuild of the engine at the time of restoration of the rest of the bike. There was very little wear inside the engine. New big end and main shells were fitted (as it was down) and a new clutch basket and plates fitted. The bores were honed, fitted with new rings and new valve springs were fitted to the newly ground valves. A genuine Honda gasket set was used as were all genuine Honda parts. The oil pumps (2 fitted on these bikes) were both renewed as well. The universal joint on the drive shaft was also replaced. New seat, radiator and rear wheel drive gear hub were replaced with new Honda parts. Stainless spokes were fitted to genuine DID rims as GL's were originally fitted with them. 
The frame and ancillary parts were powder coated, the alloy polished  and NOS body work fitted. Many new parts were also fitted including a speedo/tachometer/fuel gauge. The old speedo displayed 42000 miles. These bikes are massively over engineered. Like I said 42000 there was virtually no wear and items were replaced as the engine was dismantled for inspection. Since the rebuild, the only part of note that I have had to fit, is a new starter motor
The bike runs well and remains very reliable. I have always used regular unleaded petrol as that is recommended by Honda. It is still a beauty. The mark on the tank panel can be easily sorted out. The bike is currently SORN and has no MOT. I will have the bike tested once it is sold. Road tax will then be the new owners responsibility. A lot of my blood sweat and tears have gone into this bike over the years. I hope that it goes to a good home.
