Description 1953 WOLSELEY 4/44 - MEGA EARLY MODEL, COULD BE OLDEST SURVIVING EXAMPLE, LOVELY

This gorgeous Wolseley 4/44 is definitely one of the earliest known models and could even be the oldest surviving example of this beautifully designed vehicle from the studio of the famous Gerald Palmer! Built in July 1953, it was really early in the production run which began just four months earlier. The eagle-eyed amongst you will note the early style dashboard which did not feature the later wooden glove compartments on either side of the instrumentation and instead offered open parcel shelves. By the way, I must point out before I forget, this is the only 1950s Wolseley I have ever owned which boasts a fully working time clock complete with comforting tick! So, yes, I took these photos at 8am today.....
Finished in the most suitable colour of dark green, she also has the most stunning interior you could wish to find on a 4/44. The light green leather was professionally re-trimmed back in 1994 and it is, without doubt, immaculate with only the slightest (almost undectable) wear to the driver's seat. This cost £1400 21 years ago, and so I guess you can imagine the quality we are talking about here. The wood finish inside the car is just as impressive. The headlining and carpets (new set) are spot on, but it is that central dash that jumps out at me - the early design before the whole width of the dashboard came with a wooden finish!
The huge history file reveals receipts over the years totalling thousands of pounds and so I will just select one or two items of interest referring to this 4/44 which changed hands in 2008 for £4500 - and we all know how prices have rocketed since then! She has had a new gear box, new clutch and has been converted to run on unleaded fuel. She has been re-chromed and still has her original working trafficators. And what I like here is that the more modern "flashers" have been fitted to front and rear on their own separate supports and therefore not "dug into" the bodywork. You could actually remove them and you would never know they had been there, thereby giving the car its original look with just the one pair of rear lights!
Body-wise, she is really straight and very pretty. Any imperfections are far fro major - most sellers would not even mention them, but I always prefer to. The worst area in my opinion is the nearside rear door which has minor scratches in the paintwork. Not dents or rot, but scratches; maybe caused by shrubbery or such like. There is the odd bit of paint blistering here and there which you would expect years after restoration, though nothing that detracts from the car's beautifully sleek appearance. She is rock solid underneath and still features her original jacking points! The engine bay is in body colour and is fine. She starts on the button, shows excellent oil pressure and drives wonderfully well. In a nut shell, that's about it.
I accept all major credit/debit cards and a ten per cent deposit is required at the point of sale with the balance due within three days. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Thanks, Martin (07595-020282).
