Description 1985 BMW R80RT Street Scrambler Cafe Racer custom bobber
Thanks for looking at my pride and joy BMW R80.
What to say about this? I suppose first of all I make no apologies for the way it looks, the brief to myself was to create a reliable, comfortable, understated classic style motorcycle and for me the end result fits this brief.
Reliable: Its a BMW what can I say and at only 27k miles it will keep going for many more thousands. The engine purrs, the gearbox is very slick it starts stops and handles like a dream.
Comfortable: It has been fitted with Pro taper hi bars so no back breaking, wrist crippling cafe racer clip ons. The seat although looks short in the padding department is very comfortable, I was out on her for 4 hours on Sunday and still wanted more. Ergonomically she is a joy to be perched on.
Understated. I suppose this is open to interpretation but I have seen a lot of these conversions ruined in my opinion by silly paint jobs and stupid bolt ons, so purposely used BMW black paint on the frame and tank to retain an element of authenticity and have removed as much as possible, rather than adding bling
about the bike. She is a 1985 R80, found in a barn, stripped, rebuilt and modified to what you see now. I am sure there is more than what is listed below but I will attempt to list all changes.
New 2 into 1 header pipes
New extended megaphone silencer, (sounds fantastic without annoying the neighbours)
LED lighting (halo front light)
Brake lights positioned in the frame under the seat
Trimmed rear subframe for a scrambler look
Pro taper bars and grips
Single trails style seat
Gel battery
Fully repainted including frame, tank engine and wheels
On the MOT certificate it has the recorded mileage and I have the original clocks, so I believe the mileage to be genuine. i also have photos of the conversion.
So if you like it, make me an offer you might be surprised, If you want to view it no problem you are welcome, tyre kickers are welcome in fact just pop round and we can have a cup of tea and talk about bikes.
Reason for sale, i am crazy! No I have too many bikes and just cant keep on top of them all, plus we need some cash for home improvements (the leaky roof needs to be fixed fast)
I am sure I have missed stuff so any questions welcome, I will be very sad to see her go.
If you want to see a vid of her running let me know and I can send one or post to you tube or something.
